As some of you are aware, Nicole McKim's family holds an annual golf tournament in memory of her brother, Chris. They haven’t been able to hold the tournament for the past couple of years due to Covid, so they are really pleased to be able resume things this year.
Chris passed away suddenly in 2008 from an undiagnosed heart condition called Long QT syndrome. Since his passing, they have discovered that a number of their family members have also inherited the same genetic heart condition, including Nicole, her dad and her son. In 2010, they decided to start putting on an annual golf tournament, not only to honor Chris’ memory, but to raise awareness and funds to help others with the same and similar medical conditions. The organization that they donate all of the proceeds from the tournament is called SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes) Canada, which is a group that supports patients and families, advocates for research and educates the public on arrhythmia conditions. Over the past ten tournaments, they have raised over $60,000.00, all of which has been donated to SADS.
